The South East Coast Ambulance Service received a number of calls from motorists caught in congestion between Junctions 5 and 6 following a serious crash at Godstone about 10am today (June 24).
Surrey Police confirmed that a white Mercedes Vito van and a white lorry were involved in the collision, which led to severe and prolonged congestion in high temperatures.
A spokesman for SECAmb said: “This has resulted in a number of calls from people suffering from heat-related illnesses, including a number of coach passengers.

“Heavy traffic is making it challenging for ambulance clinicians to reach some patients as quickly as we would like and we are working closely with partner agencies to improve access and prioritise those most in need.”
The driver of the van involved in the crash, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by air ambulance.
SECAmb advised the public to avoid the area if possible, allow emergency vehicles space, and stay hydrated if caught in stationary traffic.
Surrey Police have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage of the collision.
