Havering Council has granted permission for six new signs and 10 external lights at the new Travelodge hotel under construction in Station Road.
Five of the signs will be illuminated – displaying the Travelodge name on the front and sides of the building – while a further steel and aluminium sign will project from the side of the hotel.
The planning officer’s report revealed that the proposals had to be changed before advertisement consent was granted.
This was due to the plans including a “significant degree of advertising”, the report said, which was considered to result in “visual clutter” on the street.
Travelodge therefore agreed to reduce the size of some of the signs and reduce the number of high level signs.
The report said: “A number of signs in particular the projection sign at 6m long and .95 deep, – were requested to be reduced in scale, and other high level signs to the rear and flank elevations, were of scale and position which was not considered appropriate to its setting.”
Works began on the new hotel in June 2025, after plans were approved following an appeal.
Metal framework has now been erected at the front of the site, with drone photos capturing the latest progress at the beginning of January.
